“Civil War in the Lowcountry”

Utilizing historic records, artifacts, historic artwork, photographs, journal entries, letters and historic documents, this exhibition will address the Civil War in the Lowcountry region. Subjects include: the Battle of Port Royal Sound, construction of a major Union encampment on Hilton Head and the impact that this had upon former slaves in the region, the relationship between the civilian ‘sutlers’ and the military, the founding and importance of Mitchelville (the area’s first Freedman’s community), and the daily life of those on the Island from 1861-65.

Easter Eggstravaganza at Shelter Cove Park
Location: Shelter Cove Community Park
Time: 10:30-1:30 pm
The Easter Egg Hunt begins at 11 am sharp. Kid's Activities include face painting, music, rides and more. Admission is $10 for kids {includes activities} and is free for parents. Proceeds to benefit the Island Recreation Center’s Children’s Scholarship Fund

Local restaurants offer up their best seafood cuisine. Live Music. Hosted by the David M. Carmines Memorial Foundation.Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society, M.D. Anderson Cancer Research Center and the Island Recreation Scholarship Fund.

10th Annual Art Market at Historic Honey Horn

Saturday from 10am-5pm; Sunday from 11am-4pm

The Coastal Discovery Museum will jury in artists in media that includes: clay, wood, fibers, metals, glass, jewelry, watercolors, oil, mixed media and photography. All work will be on display and for sale. This event host artists from 13 states annually and well-known local artists share the spotlight during this weekend-long event, as they compete for prizes. There is a $6.00 per car parking donation, while admission to the show is free. Demonstrations throughout the weekend will be held in glass, pine needle basketry, clay and much more. Food and beverage are for sale during the event.
